MISSION STATEMENT:

General Overview of Position:

The function of the Recreation Pastor is to provide a gospel centered bridge between nonchurch community members and Lake Church through sports, fitness, and rentals. By being a trusted provider of quality sports opportunities, fitness endeavors and rentals - relationships are built and opportunities for gospel centered conversations and discipleship relationships flourish. Pastor will determine needed positions and fill them and eliminate positions not needed. This position will cast the vision for the ministry, train and equip needed workers and be responsible for public relations.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


• This position requires a college degree and the education that supports this position.
  

• The pastor must have the skills and ability to perform the functions of this position.
  

• The minister must have a sense of Call to this ministry.
  

• This position requires a person that tithes.

 

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

Reports to: Lead Pastor and the Discipleship Pastor.

 

Typical Duties: Programming:



• Develop long term recreation plan provided to membership and community including but not limited to: youth sports leagues, clinics, camps, adult sports calendar, and fundraiser opportunities. 

• Develop and lead a robust team of servants to minister through sports.

• Be the gate keeper for updating and implementing current trends in rec leagues, including establishing and monitoring rules and polices, training coaches, referees, and support staff assigned to league and events. 

• Oversee writing of year wide devotional content used in youth sports. 

• Oversee administrative details of leagues such as: evaluations, drafts, team building, communicating to parents, advertising appropriate church related activities, devotional content, jersey creation and submission, etc. 

• Invest in coaches who are serving in leagues in a way that ministers and points them to Jesus. Serve those who are serving the families in your ministry.

• Develop advertising campaigns and recreation brochures for all events.

• Monitor and replace proper equipment required for activities including fitness room and all recreation supplies. 

• Coordinate with Discipleship Team or Assimilations Pastor and/or proper follow up personnel of all participants participating in programs to connect then to Lake Church.

• Develop and/or attend training program for league commissioners.

• Build relationships with community schools in ministering to faculty/staff

• Develop a measurement for league and event success/failure for future programming.

 

Marketing and Public Relations:

 

• Develop relations with key church and community leaders involved in recreation programming.

• Oversee digital footprint including website and social media presence.

• Oversee Recreation Admin Assistant in coordinating community usage of the LC, including fee structures and calendaring.

• Develop relationships with LC members and program participants.

• Develop marketing plan for all program activities.

 

Class Programming/ Personal Training:

 

• Coordinate with personal trainers and instructors on providing appropriate fitness classes

• Determine proper pay scale/fee structure for classes and instructors.

• Develop marketing for desired classes.

• Determine proper equipment for classes.

 

Budgeting:

 

• Work towards profitability in all programs and bottom line of the budget. 

• Oversee sponsorship obligations including creating and printing sponsorship brochure, ordering and hanging banners, ensuring partners receive appropriate communication visibility

• Stewart financial resources according to planned annual budget

 

Basic personal responsibilities:

 

• Maintain church membership with Lake Church.

• Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer and meditation.

• Maintain proper priorities in your home and be a spiritual influence on your spouse and children, if married.

• Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.

• Financially support the work of ministries of Lake Church by faithfully giving at least 10% of your gross income as a tithe offering. Maintain wise stewardship measures over the remaining 90%.

 

Requirements:


•  At least 5-10 years of experience in discipleship, recreation, or sports ministry. 
  

• Served in a local church over a consistent amount of time. 
  

• Can develop teams and specialize in growing a volunteer base.
  

• Can fundraise for special projects and gain sponsorships for leagues. 
  

• Experience in building bridges between the community and the church.
